Rosanne Marmor
Rosanne Marmor is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and lives in NE Portland with her wife and son and their brood of cats, dogs and fish. Rosanne has worked for non-profits in New York City, California and Oregon. Her non-profit work has centered on services for people with no and low incomes living in affordable and public housing. She is now in private practice doing counseling, coaching and consulting.
Rosanne Marmor grew up in New York City with a very low income. Her parents were both disabled and it was often hard for them to make ends meet. She grew up believing that service to the community was an important part of easing the burdens of poverty and dedicated her time towards poverty alleviation programs. She also knew she was a lesbian, but this was a secret kept from family until much later. She settled in Portland in 1993 and began volunteering for Transition Projects until she got in to Portland State University and received her Master’s in Social Work.
Today as a mental health counselor and consultant, she takes a unique approach to her clients. About 70% are LGBTQ. Because Rosanne is non-judgmental, kind and compassionate, her clients can be who they need to be without shame. Once people can see their own beauty they thrive and that is all she wants for the LGBTQ
community.
Rosanne is tireless in her efforts to serve those in Portland. She teaches classes on vulnerability and trauma informed practice and offers consultations on how to increase awareness of trauma. She also creates tools that can be used at home to help increase the ability for people to truly be themselves. A hero is someone who gives people space to be truly who they are, and Rosanne is that hero.
We begin announcing a hero per day on June 1, and the heroes' posters are unveiled in a reception at Q Center on June 7, 2018, 5-8PM. The public is invited. Queer Heroes' posters are displayed all year at Q Center.
